Just as you thought fashion week couldn´t get more entertaining it just got better. It is now official that The Swedish Fashion Council (Svenska Moderådet) is suing Berns Salonger because of their use of the name Sthlm Fashion Week by Berns. Stockholm Fashion Week is coordinated by the fashion council since ten years. With Berns deciding to change their name from Fashion Days by Berns to Sthlm Fashion Week by Berns the fashion council obviously thought the confusion got too big for a lot of people. According to the lawsuit the change of dates for the events at Berns to the beginning of July instead of mid August which is the traditional week for Stockholm has led to the situation becoming even more confusing. “Berns is using the attention value and good reputation that the fashion council´s efforts have created around the arrangement Stockholm Fashion Week to market their own event”, concludes the fashion council in the lawsuit. Apparently Berns is not to give in to the demands from the fashion council. “Stockholm Fashion Week is a generic name that no one owns. We will listen to what the court has to say”, says Yvonne Sörensen, CEO Berns Salonger. “This is a very typical way for the fashion council to act. As soon as they feel that their position is threatened they start doing things like this instead of trying to cooperate; which is what Stockholm as a fashion city really needs”, says a source that likes to stay anonymous. So – in one corner – Lotta Ahlvar, CEO of the fashion council and in the other – Yvonne Sörensen, CEO of Berns. We are sure we have not heard the last about this catfight that is now out in the open!
